Dining Halls

Article and Photos by: Brittney Vidal and Courtney Scoufis, M&M TIPsters

Snelling Dining Hall, on the University of Georgia campus, is a great place to enjoy some great food and hang out with friends. College students dine at Snelling regularly during the fall and spring, but over the summer, the building is shared between the college students and the hundreds of campers that come from all of the different summer camps that are held on the UGA campus. For the Duke TIP campers, Snelling provides breakfast and lunch on weekdays. For these meals, the campers have a wide variety of foods to choose from, including pizza from Giorgio’s Pizza, or something grilled at the Sanford Grill. Many of the TIPsters (Duke TIP campers) say that they like Snelling because of the smiles that all of the employees wear on a daily basis. “I like the food at Snelling and how happy the workers are,” said 14-year-old TIPster, Jacob Pereira.
Out of the three dining halls that TIPsters eat at, Bolton is referred to by many as the worst. Bolton is the dining hall that all TIPsters attend for dinner and on the weekends for every meal. “ It’s just way too small,” says TIPster Marissa Karp. Bolton may have a three story layout but it is always flooded with other camps which make it difficult to find a table that sits your whole RC group and makes lines extremely long.
Not one to dwell on the negative, 2nd year TIPster Madison Howard believes that the ice cream at Bolton is the best. Maddie Kim, a 2nd year TIPster from Atlanta, Georgia enjoys eating the fish sticks at Bolton. However, she dislikes the inefficiency of the food lines.
Summit, a dining hall on the east side of campus, is attended by only a couple of Duke TIP classes for lunch. Most students that attend this dining hall believe that it’s the best. The layout of the dining hall is considered nicest. However, some students consider the staff at Snelling nicer. The difference between Summit and Snelling is that Summit has a salad bar with fresh toppings and a wide variety of healthy foods. Snelling has a salad bar but it’s not nearly as big as the one at Summit.
When asked why it’s considered the best Angela McHugh said, “Its tastes better and there’s more variety.” TIPster Chandler Hickman said, “It has the best food and the nicest, like, place.”
