I define media as a collection of various sources that distributes news, messages, and pictures. This collection includes but is not limited to: social networking websites, news websites, newspapers, magazines, cell phones, cable news networks, and other electronics and technologies. Having a variety of methods to receive information, it may be difficult to select only one as your favorite medium. However, as a young man I would have to select cable news and television.
I’m not against the other sources because I personally use them all, but television brings certain advantages to the table that the other sources may lack. For instance, print media is currently on a downhill path towards extinction. The days of sitting down reading any kind of paper is long gone as we are currently in an information revolution. People want to find easier, more cost efficient methods to getting tasks done. That more efficient method is the internet.
The internet is great! I surf it every day, however, I don’t see much difference between the internet and print media. Either way, you are still sitting somewhere reading the same article. Reading is indeed fundamental and if you love reading, then that’s your choice but I see television as a more time-benefitting medium.
Television brings a lot more to the table. It has sound to keep you focused, you can see the personalities of the news anchors, and even now you can call in to give your thoughts on various topics. It may be more expensive than the other mediums, but it’s fun, interactive, less time consuming, and it’s on 24/7. You can even change the channel and see what other stations are saying about the same subject. It’s faster than the internet and more fun to do, in my opinion, than read a bland newspaper. What can be better than that?
